An Evening Stroll Around Granada

Granada comes alive in the evenings. Nicaraguans are a family oriented people, and this focus means everyone is often on the same schedule. Lunch is usually consumed at home with family, and when it's time for dinner little time is wasted at work. The day concludes at dusk, but it isn't a rushed scramble. The people of Granada take time to enjoy the cooler weather that the evening clouds bring as they say goodbye until next time.

At no other time of day is there such a sense of place, unity, and beauty. Dusk in Granada brings the city to life; the vitality of the people, streets, and structures are captivating. Men and women sit on their stoops to enjoy the sunset, children play soccer in the street, or baseball in the park, merchants pack away their wares, and tourists hold hands as they cruise down La Calzada.

San Francisco, the oldest Cathedral in Central America. Erected in 1525, over 75,000 people are buried here.

A view of the Cathedral of Granada from San Francisco, the Volcano Mombacho is in the background.

These horses are descendants of the Conquistadors' horses. Not just tourists ride these.

The result of a Spanish Development project. Strangely reminiscent of Barcelona.

Granada is famous for its preserved colonial architecture.

One of the longest and dirtiest churches in Latin America.

Even the locals need to protect the rock.

Baseball is the National Sport. Nicaragua has produced 12 MLB players, 3 of whom have played for the Phillies.

In the rainy season the clouds bring cooler weather and lots of precipitation!
